White Rose English School is not just an ordinary school; it is a place where children can learn English and develop their potential for the future. The design of the building itself serves as a signboard, incorporating soft curves and large openings that allow a view to the other side. This design element makes it easy for parents to drop off and pick up their children, while also creating a visually appealing facade.
One of the standout features of White Rose English School is the use of semicircles in the facade instead of complete circles. This design choice represents the potential of children in learning English, which can lead them to a brighter future and connect them to the world. The front projected portion of the building symbolizes the energy and liveliness of the children, creating a sense of joy and excitement.
The design of White Rose English School also takes into consideration the practical aspects of the facility. The narrow front road required careful planning to avoid traffic congestion. To address this, two arches were built in the building, allowing parents to drop off and pick up their children through a drive-thru without getting wet in the rain. These arches also provide a view of the greenery of the park from the road side, enhancing the connection with the surrounding environment.
The interior of White Rose English School is designed to provide a comfortable and functional space for both children and parents. Each floor offers ample waiting space, and from the second floor, parents can observe their children learning in the classrooms. Additionally, a baby corner on the first floor ensures the safety of small children during drop-off and pick-up. The design of the school aims to create a welcoming environment not only for learning but also for the local community, making it a symbol of the region.
White Rose English School was completed in April 2014 after a year of construction. The three-story reinforced concrete building has a compact footprint but utilizes a stairwell, large openings, and a protruding slab to create an open and functional space. The minimalist design, with pillars seamlessly integrated into the walls, allows children's imagination to flourish without any visual distractions.
Naoko Horibe's design for White Rose English School has received recognition and acclaim. In 2023, it was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in the Architecture, Building, and Structure Design category. This prestigious award acknowledges the outstanding creativity and ingenuity of the design, which combines art, science, and technology to contribute to the improvement of quality of life.
White Rose English School is not just a school; it is a testament to the power of design in creating spaces that inspire and nurture. With its unique architectural features and innovative design, this school stands as a symbol of learning, growth, and connection to the world.
